Who is the Holy Spirit?

One of the most confusing topic for people to understand is who the Holy Spirit is. Is He God, is He a ghost, is He mystical? One thing for sure, His existence is wrapped in a little mystery. Some are afraid of Him due to this mystery, especially when people misinterpret what blaspheme of the Holy Spirit means; the unpardonable sin Yet, the Bible does outline information about who He is, starting in Genesis.

Who is Holy Spirit?
First and foremost the Holy Spirit is God. There is nothing that negates that. He hovered over the Earth during the Creation. He hovered over the Tabernacle when the Israelites were wondering the desert for 40 years. He was the "father" of Jesus when He planted inside Mary His seed. And after Jesus had resurrected He became the Counselor to all of those who believe, by not hovering over anyone but living inside them. He is from God. He is of God. He is God.

Where is Holy Spirit?
Since He is God, He is everywhere. The question that should be asked is, where does He show up? Throughout the existence of man you see the Spirit in different ways. As stated before during the Creation He hovered over the earth, perhaps guiding things as they moved. As man's existence progressed He then started to hover over people and items, blessing, empowering, or guiding. He gave Samson his strength in Judges. It came upon David especially during worship. It came upon all the prophets when they had their visions. Prophets and leaders who believed had the Holy Spirit rest upon them and then they were given instruction or power. When the Tabernacle was used, He hovered over it. He led the Israelites by fire and smoke. But He never was in those people or items. That means He left the people every now and then, perhaps due to unfaithfulness of the people. When Jesus resurrected He promised people that a helper would come. This helper is the Holy Spirit, and He came in like a rushing mighty wind and instead of hovering over them, He rested upon their heads and then entered those who believe. Before Christ the Spirit would only rest upon people, after Christ the Spirit lives in people. Now the Spirit is permanent for the believer. His grace is upon us always. They were sin conscience. We are faith conscience. They had to go to a temple/tabernacle. We are the temple. And because of this they were unable to house the spirit of God. But since Jesus came into our world and cleansed us, our hearts can be filled with the Spirit. We have something they could not have.

When did the Holy Spirit come into existence?
First and foremost, The Spirit is God. He is the creator. He was there as part of the Trinity from which whom man was made in His image.  We all have a spirit.  He is forever here.

What does the Holy Spirit do?
First and foremost, the Holy Spirit gives guidance.  He interprets the mysteries of God either through His prophets or through His word.  He gives the gifts of the Spirit; these give us ways to enhance our worship or edifies our existence.  He comforts us in times of need.  He teaches us.  He leads us.

One major misinterpretation about the Spirit is that as a Christian you might blaspheme Him and commit the unpardonable sin.  That is not accurate for a believer.  When Jesus died He gave us access to the Holy Spirit.  To deny Christ is to deny the Holy Spirit.  That is when you blaspheme Him.  To deny Christ is the unpardonable sin.
